Dress down day was invented during my adult career. It was a simultaneous movement created by those who sought non monetary ways to entice and reward their employees, which is how Dockers became so popular. An employment dress code is not the same as interview attire. This graphic is a visual example of the basic dress expectation that applies to most professional interviews.
Unless an employer tells you that you can dress down for an interview, do not assume such. Many college campuses and non profits offer dress closets at little or no charge to outfit job seekers in professional clothing.
